Arnold gunmen open fire on SUV, no one hurt
Someone opened fire Saturday on an occupied vehicle at Moore Street and Constitution Boulevard in Arnold but police said no one was injured.
Police Chief Eric Doutt said the incident happened about 11 a.m. and that authorities were searching for the shooters and two additional suspects.
Each of the five suspects is male, although Doutt couldn't verify that all are adults.
Authorities are looking for a white Dodge Durango and red Chevy Monte Carlo in connection with the case.
The intended targets were a teenage boy and a man traveling with him. The Valley News Dispatch typically does not identify crime victims.
Doutt said the youth was driving the targeted SUV. He and his passenger avoided being hit by gunfire, the chief said.
Doutt said the victims were driving along Moore Street. When they reached the corner at Constitution Boulevard, the shooters, who were on foot, opened fire, he said.
Police recovered three slugs and 11 shell casings. Doutt indicated that most, if not all, of the slugs and casings were fired from a 9 mm handgun.
It was unclear how many shots hit the SUV.
The juvenile victim drove home and told his father about the incident. The family then called police, Doutt said. In addition, several residents of the area called police to report a shooting.
Doutt said as many as three vehicles may have been hit by gunfire. In addition to the SUV, police said a Subaru also appeared to have been hit. One of the victims told police that a silver Chevy Cobalt parked at the scene also had bullet holes in it. That car was reported stolen from Verona, Doutt said.
Police won't be sure all of the damage to the vehicles was the result of Saturday's shooting until they can be examined by investigators.
