Rosters announced for Lantzy game

Eleven football players who played for local schools have been selected to compete in the Ken Lantzy Finest 40 All-Star Game.

Kickoff for the contest between the North and South teams is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Greater Johnstown Senior High School.

The North squad will be led by a tandem of quarterbacks from the area in Blairsville's Justin McGinnis and Homer-Center's Garrett Sisak.

Joining them on the North will be center Nathan Tedjeske and linebacker Justin Fess, both from Homer-Center, and linebacker Zack Faith, Blairsville.

The South team will feature three players from Laurel Valley -- offensive tackle Tyler Foust, safety Patrick Hall and defensive end Justin Tantlinger.

Joining them on the South will be safety Tyler Capitosti and offensive guard Toby Hicks, both from United, and defensive tackle Zach Rudy, Saltsburg.

Ken Bussard, Central Cambria, will coach the North, and Ken Salem, Bishop McCort, will coach the South.

Several scholarships of $500, based on either scholastic achievement or performance in the game, will be given to some participants. A $1,000 scholarship for academic excellence will also be awarded.

Rosters for the game are made up of recently graduated seniors from a group of schools in Districts 5 and 6. The all-star contest began in 1971 as a way to raise money for the family of Cambria Heights football player Ken Lantzy, who suffered a paralyzing injury during a football game.

Last year, the South came away with a dominating 33-0 win in a game that was called in the third quarter because of lightning. The victory increased the South's winning streak in the series to three games.

Also in last year's game, Blairsville graduate Chris Hibbs won a scholarship for being named the top offensive back for the North squad.
